Churup Lake Hike Cordillera Blanca Peru, Day Hike in Huaraz
The most popular day hike and acclimatization activity in the Cordillera Blanca, the hike to Churup lake starts 30 minutes outside of Huaraz and takes you to a breath-taking rock and ice cirque, to the shore of the shimmering waters of Churup lake. The trip can be made in 5-8 hours, Huaraz to Huaraz, and takes you to an altitude of 4450 meters. This is a great and highly recommended way to spend your first day or two in the area.

Acclimatization
At least one acclimatisation day hike is recommended before embarking on this trek. Do not under-estimate the difficulty of this trek even though rated as moderate. If you have just arrived from another high altitude location, discuss with us the feasibility of doing it on your first full day.
Trail
To reach the lake it is necessary to climb a small 10 meter rock wall (ropes/cables have been installed to help you).
Best Trekking Season
The best time to trek in the cordillera blanca is during the dry season, from April to September. Known as the “ Andean summer”, the weather is usually stable with plenty of sunshine and clear skies, although rain and snow can come at any time of year in the mountains.
Weather
The entire Cordillera Blanca has a semi-dry and semi-cold climate, with an average maximum temperature of 23.9° C (75.0° F) and a minimum of 1.1° C (33.98° F). The climate is very unpredictable, even in the dry season it can rain. During the days it can vary from hot to very frigid temperatures, included rain and strong winds or snow over 4800 meters above sea level. It usually starts getting cloudy more often in early September. October and November are the months when after 2-3pm you can count on afternoon showers.

Warm clothing, waterproof clothing, trekking shoes, sun hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, snack, water, 30 liters backpack and trek poles.
